Taipei promotes itself as a good airport connecting much of Asia with north America, in the same way that Incheon and other airports also do.
Something interesting for those transiting Taipei is that it offers international transit passengers through Taoyuan a free half-day tour. Each tour can accommodate up to eighteen people. The transit needs to be for between eight and twenty four hours, and it does not seem to matter which airline it is on.
Each day there are two tours. The morning tour leaves terminal two (tourist service centre) at 8.00 and terminal one (tourist service centre) at 8.15, returning to the airport by around one o’clock. The afternoon tour picks up at 1.30 and 1.45 respectively, returning to the airport by around half past six.
The two tours have different itineraries: the morning one visits Shou Sin Fang Creativity Wagashi and Cultural Centre, and Sanxia and Zushi temple, while the afternoon one calls at Chiang Kai Shek Memorial Hall and the Longshan temple.
You can book the tour upon arrival at the tourist service centre, located on the first floor of both arrival terminals. Booking is on a first come, first served basis. The bus does not have room for luggage so you should first store any luggage, for example at left luggage at the airport.
For more information you can contact the airport tourist service centre, on +886 3 398 2194/3341, or simply 12194 or 13341 from an airport courtesy telephone. Or you can e-mail the tourism bureau at email@example.com.
