Hong Kongers often complain about local taxis and see no special reason to thank the drivers.
On occasion, though, one gets excellent service from a taxi driver and wants to thank them. For most of us, a verbal thank you will suffice. Some may tip, although as explained in our guide to tipping in Hong Kong, that is not the local custom.
The government actually runs a scheme whereby you can commend a taxi driver whose service has pleased you. For more information or to nominate a driver, you can visit the Quality Taxi Services Steering Committee website at www.qtssc.org.hk. If you want a complaint form about a Hong Kong taxi, you can also download one at the same website.
