Shama Island North review: fantastic new service apt!

Lying here on the coach of my huge living room, writing up this review of Shama’s newest property in Hong Kong, Island North. It’s located on the border of Fortress Hill / North Point, right off King’s Road. My friend and I decided to check it out and are staying in a large 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment. They do have studios and hotel rooms as well though if you don’t need something so spacious.

The hotel/service apartment opened in 2018 so everything feels brand new. There’s plenty of high quality furnishings and pretty much everything you need for your stay except for your clothes. (They’ll even give you toothbrushes, full kitchenware including plates and utensils, coffee, hot water boiler, iron and ironing board, etc.)

Location: note entrance is on Cheong Hing Street, not King’s Road despite the address.

Very close to the MTR station, Fortress Hill (4-5 min walk) is about 2 min closer than North Point and a little less crowded of a walk. The tram is also on King’s Road along with a plethora of buses to take you anywhere in Hong Kong.

Accommodation:

As mentioned, there are both hotel rooms for short stays, and service apartments for longer stays, usually monthly or longer. I stayed in the 2BR service apartment where house keeping is provided 2x / week. Cleaning was impeccable, not a piece of dust or hair to be found. Compliments to the housekeeping staff and management here, very rare to find such a good crew.

Pictures will explain a lot.

Overall super comfy, bathrooms decently large by HK standards. Bedrooms are a little tight on walking room since they fit in a large closet/wardrobe, but that’s usual of Hong Kong as well. Fits the beds well and there’s TVs in the rooms too. Ensuite bathroom in the master is a nice touch. Very quiet individual air conditioners for comfort control, no complaints there.

We had an apartment on the 07 line which was not facing King’s Road. It was very very very quiet, especially for Hong Kong. Really nice and relaxing after a day at work or walking around touristing.

Amenities:

Shama Island North has amenities to enjoy such as a rooftop lounge, full service gym, and Starbucks by the lobby.

Gym is very well equipped, including a full set of free weights in the back area. Plenty of space and didn’t smell musty like some other gyms. There’s also a few other pieces of equipment such as treadmills, ellipticals, etc. Should suit most people unless you’re vying to be on the cover of a fitness magazine.

Rooftop lounge provides a nice BBQ and seating area if you want to bring some friends over to hang out.

Laundry machines and dryers are free, yay! There’s plenty to go around, doubt you’ll ever have to wait for a machine. Bring laundry detergent, or you can buy some from Park n Shop which is around the block. The reception desk also sells washing powder for $15.

Summary:

Super impressed by this property. Well maintained, impeccably clean, nice staff that speaks multiple languages. I’ll write about 29 hotel rooms at this property in a following post.

I also stayed at two other properties of Shama in Hong Kong before too, reviews are here in case you’d like to consider those.
