Sri Lankan Airlines joins Oneworld!

In some more Oneworld news this year, Sri Lankan officially joined the alliance as of May 1, 2014. Of course this can only be good new for Asia Miles members and frequent fliers of other oneworld alliance partner airlines such as American Airlines, British Airways, Qantas, US Airways, JAL and more!

Sri Lankan Airlines

Most flights on Sri Lankan are between Colombo, Sri Lanka and the destination, however flights from Hong Kong actually stop in Bangkok before continuing onto Colombo. There also appears to be a flight between Paris and Rome as well.

There are many small destinations you can fly to on Sri Lankan, particularly around South Asia and the Middle East. Take a look at the route map here. You’ll want to stick with the solid red lines. While Cathay Pacific just started direct flight to Male Maldives, if award seats are fully booked, you could always try Sri Lankan now. Also another good option to Europe.

Service-wise I have never flown this airline, but I would expect mediocre service. Let us know your experience if you’ve flown Sri Lankan before.

Tried HKG-BKK-CMB-FRA once, and returning from CDG – flew out right before christmas time and came back after new year – the flight was nearly empty. Old seats and old configuration, but hospitality was OK – their ceylon tea was very nice!
