Taboo Macau Review – City of Dreams

The Taboo show at City of Dreams in Macau certainly exceeded my expectations when I went last week. It’s classified as a cabaret show, but it’s not really just that. It’s a bit cabaret and a bit variety. Besides the sex aspect, there’s a whole bunch of acts such as sword swallowing and acrobatic maneuvers above your head. Don’t worry ladies, while you may think the show is geared towards men, it’s really not. There’s plenty of scantily clad men in the show as well, and there were plenty of women in the audience the night I went. I’d say it was probably 60% / 40% men to women.

Taboo is a very intimate show. The actors come up to your table and do performances not only on the stage, but all around you. It’s really something I’ve never seen or experienced much, particularly in Asia since most venues here are packed full of people. In fact, Taboo is actually performed in the Cubic Club. There’s plenty of staff helping to seat and serve you Moet Champange. You’ll get a whip and some masks to play with at your table too if that’s your cup of tea. I really liked how there is something to watch before the actual performance begins as well, as some of the performers walk around and do a little tease while you’re getting seated.

Free Moet champagne if you're seated at a table. Cool glass holder too.

The performers come from all over the world, although the majority appeared to be from Europe. For example, the sword swallower Lucky Hell hails from Finland. Teta-Marine Stone who I thought to do the sexiest dances is British. There’s also a bunch of men and women from Frances. Although the main hostess and singer of Taboo, Trenyce, is American and was actually one of the top five on American Idol, cool!

Regarding seating and tickets, I’d certainly recommend sitting somewhere around the triangle of tables A1, A27, and B35. There’s a bunch of small platforms near those seats so most of the off stage action occurs there, although the performers do pretty much walk all over the A section.

I don’t want to give away too much of the show, so I don’t want to get into details of the acts, but here’s a few acts of the show and what you might expect. You should be able to get an idea from the photos on this post. The sword swallower was definitely the scariest for me, made me a bit uneasy, lol. But was cool, I’ve never seen such a thing.

In case you’re wondering how to get there, I took the Cotai Ferry from the Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan HK to the Taipa Ferry Terminal, which is closer than the Macau Ferry Terminal to the Macau “Strip”. At the ferry terminal, you can catch a shuttle bus to City of Dreams (or any other major hotel) which is about a 5 minute ride. Pretty simple enough, just watch where you’re walking when coming out of the ferry terminal. They’re doing construction and there was dirt and mud everywhere.
