This Sunday, the 17th of March, is St. Patrick’s Day, celebrating the primary patron saint of Ireland amongst other positions. Where best in Hong Kong to enjoy this day of Irish revelry?
The St. Patrick’s Day parade will be on Sunday (17th) from 3 to 5 p.m., in Tamar Park.
St. Patrick’s Day may have been hijacked by a stout company, but it remains a religious festival. There is a celebratory Mass tomorrow (Saturday 16th) at 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church, 37 Garden Road.
Themed Irish bars around town include:
- Delaney’s, (Basement, Mary Building, 71 – 77 Peking Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel. 2301 3980, and The Spire at the Arcade, Cyberport, Pokfulam, tel. 2677 1126). From 6 p.m. to midnight on St. Patrick’s Day they are live trad music, Irish dancing and Irish comedy.
- McSorley’s, (R001, Civic Square, Elements Mall, 1 Austin Road West, Tsim Sha Tsui, tel. 2736 4888, G/F, 46 Staunton Street, SoHo, tel. 2385 5515, and Block B, Ground Floor, D Deck, Discovery Bay, tel. 2987 8280).
Wan Chai and Lan Kwai Fong
Wan Chai and LKF are the nightlife centres in Hong Kong and there will as always be Guinness hats and the rest out in abundance over the St. Patrick’s Day weekend.
In LKF, Rula Bula describes itself as an Irish pub but it doesn’t remind me of any pub I’ve been to in Ireland.
