It may not rival Moscow or London but ballet lovers can enjoy at least some performances in Hong Kong and occasionally Macau.
Hong Kong has its own company, HK Ballet. They perform mostly at the Cultural Centre in TST but also present some shows at public venues in Tuen Mun and Sha Tin.
For full details of their upcoming programme, you can visit their website.
There is also a contemporary dance scene including some modern ballet performances in the repertoire. Local companies include the City Contemporary Dance Company – they list their programme on their website.
Other companies visit, especially during the annual Hong Kong Arts Festival which runs from late February for a month or so. The current festival includes performances by Ballett Zürich and American Ballet Theatre amongst a wide programme. The festival website is here.
Other visiting companies and performers sometimes mount shows. One good place to look for information is the leaflet racks at City Hall or online at the website of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department. This page shows events at the Cultural Centre although bear in mind that other venues, listed separately on the website, also host events.
Macau has a smaller ballet scene than Hong Kong but some casinos do present high quality shows.
For example, St Petersburg Ballet Theatre will perform Swan Lake on Friday 27 April and Saturday 28 April at the Venetian Theatre at The Venetian. For full details of this and other upcoming shows, visit the Sands Macau website.
