Review: Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens
Awhile back I stayed at the Garden View Hotel in the mid-levels, and across the street was the HK Zoo and Botanical Gardens. After living in Hong Kong for a whopping 7 years, I never came to this place, shame on me!
It’s actually a pleasant escape from the hustle and bustle from the city. There’s a number of tourists and locals both visit the exhibits which includes a number of flora and animals to enjoy. Best part, it’s FREE!
As long as your expectation is muted, you will enjoy it. (Don’t expect a Australian or North American type zoo with wide spaces and open exhibits.)
The flowers are kept in a green house, small area but pretty.
The animals are spread about, kept in cages. Unfortunately the fencing around isn’t the prettiest and ruins some of your photos, but still nice to see flamingos in HK!
As mentioned, admission is free and you’re welcome to spend as much or as little time as you want. I highly recommend finding some time, on a less humid day to walk around and enjoy the zoo and gardens right in the middle of our city!
Here’s a map:
Accessibility is super convenient. You can walk up from Central / Admiralty or MTR in about 10-15 minutes, though keep in mind it’s uphill.
Alternatively, you can bus up which is easier. Then you can walk back down. Easier for lazy folks like myself.
