If you are flying from Hong Kong airport to the United States, Australia or New Zealand, the ban on liquids of a certain size in hand baggage has been joined by a similar ban on powders.
Following American security rules, there is a ban on powdered substances over 12 pounds or 350 ml on U.S. – bound flights. A similar approach has been adopted for flights to Australia and New Zealand.
This covers powder and “powder like” substances, although there are some exemptions such as baby milk powder and medical powders. Powders may also be separately screened as happens for liquids at some overseas airports (although rarely in HK airport, in my experience).
