Arts in the Park Mardi Gras 2014
Looking for a fun activity to take the whole family this week? Check out Victoria Park in Causeway Bay where Standard Chartered is sponsoring Arts in the Park Mardi Gras. Best of all, this activity is FREE!
- Saturday Nov 15: 10am – 5pm
- Sunday Nov 16: 10am – 4:30pm
Take the MTR to Causeway Bay or Tin Hau Stations.
I haven’t been to last year’s event so I can’t tell you too much about it, but I plan to check it out this weekend. Here’s a blurb from the sponsor and a picture of what to expect. The Night Parade sounds pretty cool where they light up some of the art. Might be a community arts version of Disney’s electric parade.
Standard Chartered Arts in the Park Mardi Gras is one of Hong Kong’s largest and most vibrant annual community arts events. Last year, over 120,000 visitors took part in this incredible celebration of the arts. This year, taking inspiration from science and topics as diverse as time travel, astronomy, wildlife and robotics, thousands of young people and artists are working together to create original performance and visual art.
Join us at Victoria Park to experience spectacular giant puppets, mesmerising illuminated artworks, fun carnival art stalls, the Mad Science Hunt and 16 exciting hours of non-stop performances. Don’t miss the highlight events – Twilight in the Park and the Grand Finale Parade!
Twilight in the Park – November 15. 5-8pm.
As the sun sets, let the magic of this nighttime celebration unfold.
For one night only, step into The Mad Scientist’s laboratory and try your luck at the Mad Science Hunt and creative photo challenge for a chance to receive sparkling gifts. Or stop by the UV glow face-painting booth to get into the party mood, as sand painters, light jugglers and HKYAF dancers kick off the festivities.
At 7pm, be ready for a truly mesmerizing experience as The Mad Scientist brings to life his exotic collection of illuminated insects and plants before your very eyes in the bewitching Night Parade!
Featuring dazzling illuminated giant puppets and costumes, the Night Parade is the second collaboration between local professional artists and UK-based Lantern Company. Come and be amazed!
Grand Finale Parade – November 16. 3-4:30pm.
Watch as an eclectic mix of robots, aliens, exotic plants and a space shuttle roam through Victoria Park. Don’t miss this electrifying celebration that showcases the creativity of Hong Kong’s youth as 600 young people in magical costumes parade with giant handmade puppets.
