Flew JAL recently and saw in their in-flight magazine that they’re rolling out new seating on the Boeing 777-300ER in 2013. The seats will first be available on the NRT – LHR route in January 2013 and then moving to retrofit the 767-300ER in the second half of 2013.
The Australian Business Traveller web site has great pictures.
The seats look really nice and modern and I look forward to the changes. For most of us in the back of the plane:
According to JAL, the aptly-named Sky Wider seats gain 3 inches of pitch for a total of 34 inches, due to the adoption of a slimmer seatback design which affords an extra 7cm of space at knee-level.
This is a huge benefit although I can’t tell if the seats are the traditional recliners or the fixed-shell sliding types. I will assume it’s the fixed-shell ones since I think they save more room and personally I enjoy not feeling every time the person behind me touches my seat.
