Japan Airlines JL5 JFK – NRT Flight Review

I’m here in Tokyo, land of Chicken Teriyaki, although teritaki is hard to find here, lol.

Redeemed a mere 25,000 AAdvantage miles for a one-way trip from JFK – NRT in Japan Airlines flight 5. Originally I was booked on AA135 from JFK to HND, but I managed to change it to JL5 instead, since I’d much rather fly JL than AA. Also, the NRT flight arrives in the afternoon so I can still have dinner upon arrival, whilst the Haneda flight arrives late night so I really can’t only sleep once I get here.

I flew ANA recently from SEA – NRT, so I can make a comparison of the two. You can see that post here. In summary, ANA is slightly better because the seats are newer, and maybe marginally better service.

Terminal 1 is newish and spacious, seating is the most comfortable of any airline terminal I can remember.

I checked into my flight at JFK Terminal 1, 1.5 hours before my flight, and I was one of the last people to do so. I can’t believe how timely Japanese are, the agent said people were lined up at 9:15am already for a 1:15pm flight, crazy! Friendly Japanese check-in agent, but he had a tough time giving me a seat assignment and needed to call a manager over, I think because there weren’t many seats left open, but still snagged an aisle.
