Review: Shama Tsim Sha Tsui Service Apartment

3

I love staying at Shama, this is my second time staying with the brand, and tried out their Tsim Sha Tsui location on this second go-around. Shama operates 5 luxury service apartments in Hong Kong.

Shama TST is superbly located, as long as you don’t need to be on the HK Island side. The property sits in a converted office building, right above the MTR station. The TST MTR exit is a mere ten seconds walk, talk about convenience!

If you’re familiar with the area, it’s in the same building as the Giordano store on Nathan Rd, across the street from the Mosque. In fact, if you’re going to someplace between Wan Chai and Central, it might even be faster to get there from TST as Admiralty is only one stop.

Only downside of this convenient location, the apartments are located above a few restaurants and other commercial stores, so sometimes you need to share the lift. However, at night there is security who checks room keys which is nice. You also need a key to access the residential floors, FYI.

Since Shama TST is a service apartment, you’ll get a lot more space than a typical hotel room. You’ll also get a kitchen area to cook which is nice for longer stays. For the TST property, they only accept one month or longer stays, FYI. Some of the other locations you can do short stays of a few days.

I stayed in a 1-bedroom unit, which Shama considers the luxury one-bedroom. It was more than enough space for me. They have studios, and two-bedroom units as well, check out the brochure with the floorplans.

Check-in was super easy. Lucas helped find my reservation and provide me my electronic key. He then helped me with my luggage and brought me up to my apartment. Lucas proceeded to explain every little tidbit and feature of the apartment imaginable, including turning on the stoves. Very helpful and service oriented!

Decor of the check-in area on the 15th floor and room was similar to the Shama Central, which I stayed at in December. Not brand spanking new, but updated and certainly well-maintained.

The unit I was in had a spacious living-room, large dining table, and small kitchenette area with stove and fridge by the corner. Views were lovely of the large Kowloon Park across the street.

Random comment, there is central air. You do not need to control the AC via remotes.

Kitchen area is fully stocked. Includes cups, plates, utensils, cookware, microwave, toaster, and hot water boiler. You shouldn’t need to bring anything except food.

Bedroom was large, by HK standards, and included an en-suite bathroom which was spacious as well. Bed and linens were of high quality as you’d expect any 4-5 star hotel. Mattress was firm, but not particularly hard, so it should be fine for Western residents as well.

Toiletries were nice and high quality, along with the towels. If you’ve stayed at other Shama properties, they will be familiar to you. Otherwise the bathroom it’s pretty standard, and extremely clean.

If you noticed in the bathroom pics, there is a hamper. There are laundry facilities available on the 6th and 15th floors, free of use. There are dryers too which will help keep your clothes nice and fluffy.

Other amenities include a gym with nice equipment, business center with printer, and rooftop garden.

I didn’t ask, but I assume if you were cooking up a nice dinner they’d let you pluck some fresh herbs from the cute herb garden.

Overall, as you could probably tell, I did like staying at Shama Tsim Sha Tsui. Shama really runs their properties well. The service provided by staff is always friendly and helpful. Housekeeper Jenny was fantastic, my apartment was spic-and-span clean. My number one pet peeve is cleanliness, and I didn’t find any part of the apartment unsanitary. Shama trains their housekeepers well and shines in this area. Btw, there is daily maid service here, as opposed to other service apartments which might only clean once or twice a week.

Next time you’re looking for a convenient service apartment, Shama Tsim Sha Tsui should be on the top of your list.

  1. Hi, thanks for the comprehensive review.
How did you find the noise level considering the very central location and the Mosque nearby?
