Madera Hollywood Hotel Review

Madera Hollywood is one of the newest boutique hotels in Hong Kong. It’s also one of the most unique and nicely designed. Looks more like a room in Europe or North America, and some of the rooms are themed after famous Hollywood stars from yesteryear. It’s a small boutique, only 38 one-bedroom suites, 2 units per floor, so it definitely feels intimate.

The location of Madera Hollywood is really stellar, perched right on Hollywood Road and Peel Street, right smack in between SoHo and Central (technically this building is on the NoHo side.) It’s very convenient to the office buildings as well as the bars, restaurants, and shopping. It’s basically next to the corner of Lyndhurst Terrace where Pacific Coffee, G.O.D, Tai Cheong, and the Central Escalators are.

I had the pleasure of staying in one of their Grand Deluxe one-bedroom suites. Deluxe are their regular suites, which are also one-bedroom but slightly smaller. Check-in is a little confusing, as there’s no real lobby, but Madera Hollywood now has a ground floor storefront ‘lobby’ area with one clerk.

Check-in is done on the 3rd floor, but you need to first go to the lobby on the ground floor so that someone can bring you up to the check-in lounge. I did have to wait about 7-10 minutes to check-in, as a few guests were checking out at the time. Since I ended up waiting awhile, I asked the clerk to call upstairs to see if someone can let me up to the 3rd floor for check-in. He did and the operations manager came down to bring me up and apologized for the wait.

The lounge on the 3rd floor is a nice recluse from the ground level lobby, as it’s more quieter and relaxing without all of the street activity and people coming in and out. There’s also a drinks bar with coffee, beer, juices, etc. Check-in was super easy and quick, and got my keys in a jiffy. The manager showed me up to my room and explained some of the features which was nice.

Rooms are well decked out, with a large living room, kitchenette area, bedroom, and spacious bathroom. The decor is really what sets this property apart from the rest. It’s well designed from head to toe, and transports you to another world.

While there is a “kitchen” in the suites, there are no stoves. Nor are there plates and utensils, so keep in mind it’s not really a service apartment, though it appears as such. I was told however, for longer stays the hotel will arrange those items if you wish. You don’t really need to cook if you’re in HK for a short time though, so much good food at your doorstep. On the plus side, there is a fridge and even a built in washing machine with dryer! Nice touch.

Along with the free minibar, I enjoyed the other touches such as universal electric adapter, power charger, and wireless cables you can borrow during your stay. There’s even a handy phone you can use, good for wifi hotspot, long-distance IDD calling.

The bedrooms are nice, they come with nice king sized beds and the whole unit has plenty of windows and light. Don’t worry though, there’s blackout curtains if you decide to sleep in! In the Grand Deluxe Suites, there are also huge walk-in closets, which can also serve as a dressing area. I think it’s one of the biggest closet areas I’ve ever seen, tons of space to hold all of your shopping items.

The bathroom is equally as impressive as the rest of the unit. It’s spacious and well designed with lots of details. The shower even has 3 different types of shower heads. Honestly it was a bit complicated, I couldn’t figure out how to turn on the jets, and I have a masters degree! Water pressure for the other two shower heads were great though, didn’t really need the jet.

Like the Madera Hong Kong, this property uses dual color bathroom items which I love. Here the theme is blue and white. Nice fluffy robes and towels, yay. L’occitane lotions, shampoo, and conditioner provided here.

Overall the room is extremely spacious and comfortable. I love how there’s an interesting item to look at and discover in the each part of the suite and admire the time and effort put into the design.

I had a chance to peek into the Charlie Chaplin Grand Deluxe suite and a Deluxe Suite too, so here are some pictures of those. The Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe themed suites are the same size, but they have a few more items related to that person. For example, in the Charlie Chaplin suite I saw some DVDs and booked related to him. In the Monroe Suite, everything is themed in a hot pink color.

The Deluxe Suite is a bit smaller than the Grand Deluxe. The kitchen area is more like a wet bar, and there’s no walk-in closet in the bedroom. It still has the level of high-design and sophistication of the Grand Deluxe though.

For hotel amenities, there is a large gym which takes up the entire floor of the building. Plenty of equipment to keep you in shape.

I really liked staying here, the location was great, the suites were spacious and refreshing, and there was a sense of privacy since it’s such a small hotel. Room rates are certainly competitive with other hotels in the area, so if you’re looking for a unique property with a lot more space than your regular hotel room, give Madera Hollywood a shot.

My only main gripes would be having only one staff member on the ground floor, and that luggage is stored in the public view (security issues.) This is a relatively new property so kinks are still being ironed out. If they can clear those two up, I think it’ll really improve the guest experience. Still, those are minor so I definitely wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again.
