Landmark Hotel Canton, Guangzhou China: Review
The Landmark Hotel Canton is a large famous hotel in Guangzhou China. It sits along the edge of the Pearl River and has sweeping views of the city and river, assuming the smog isn’t too bad. The hotel is rated four Chinese stars, and more or less meets that standard. There is ample staff employed at the property and they are willing to assist, which isn’t always the case at other hotels in China.
The room quality is mixed, some are newly renovated, some aren’t. I stayed in a renovated one and a friend stayed in a non-renovated one, both at the same price. So be sure to request a renovated one, I stayed on 22nd floor. The older rooms still have tube TVs!
In the renovated rooms, there is a large flatscreen and large window. The beds are soft for China standards, which will appeal to western guests. The bedding is decent and bathroom modern. My only real complaint is the bathroom is really small in comparison with the rest of the room. I guess they didn’t want to move the wall when the room was renovated but the bathroom can really use an extra foot or two. Slippers are in the nightstand cabinet in case you can’t find it, and those are good quality.
There’s a full service Chinese restaurant on the 2nd floor and it’s decent, not great for dim sum, but convenient. There are also buses to Macau and Hong Kong available right at the hotel which makes it convenient if you decide to travel that way. It’s operated by China Travel Service, CTS.
