Hong Kong airport often rates well in polls of well designed airports. However, most passengers must have had moments when they felt that something could be done better.
The airport is currently advertising a public contest “to submit ideas for innovative yet practical facilities and services for the future passenger concourse”. These should be against one of three themes:
- Highlighting Hong Kong’s local culture,
- Enhanching passengers’ travel experience, or
- Relating to the aviation industry.
There are two contestant categories: Hong Kong secondary school students and “open” group for all HK residents. In the open group there are three prizes, the first being a cash prize of $50,000 and two round-trip business class tickets within Asia.
I’ve never found the airport responsive to my suggestions (e.g. co-locating A and E bus stops for passenger convenience) so won’t hold my breath. But this competition could be a great chance for you to communicate your own ideas. The website is www.designyourairport.com and hotline is 2813 4110. Submission deadline is 20 May 2016.
