Singapore Airlines is launching their new B787-10 aircraft on its Hong Kong route from 31 March 2019 and is launching a fairly generous promotion for the occasion. You can score return tickets from Hong Kong to Singapore for all in from 787HKD in Economy Class. The promotion lasts until 8th March, Friday albeit it comes with quite an array of restrictions.
There are four different discount fares you can book during this promotion, for Economy Class:
- 787HKD RT for a minimum of 2 passengers on outbound SQ871 and inbound SQ856 only
- 1250HKD RT for a minimum of 2 passengers on outbound SQ861/871 and inbound SQ856/868 only
And for Business Class:
- 12670HKD RT with no minimum passenger or any flight restriction.
The above fares can all be booked through Singapore Airlines website. The economy fares are valid for travel beginning from 31st March to 5th July, which is also the day of the first 787-10 flights, and is restricted to select flights. There are also some blackout dates in between, particularly around Easter. The Business Class allows traveling beginning this weekend from 10th March to 7th July and have no flight restrictions.
As a point of reference, a return ticket on Singapore Airlines in Economy Class costs around 2300HKD and Business Class costs around 16,000HKD so this sale can offer quite a substantial saving for both cabins. It is rare to see Singapore Airlines to offer any promotion that offers an attractive discount. I would jump on the Economy Class deal any day but would still redeem miles for Business Class. The 12,000HKD price tag is high even after the discount offered in this promotion although still much cheaper than what is usually on sale for the route between Singapore and Hong Kong.
Singapore Airlines Economy Class is one of the best in the industry in terms of service. And coupled with the new B787-10 aircraft, I would assume it will be an awesome experience even in Economy. For Business Class, it will be the first time you can lie flat in a regional configured aircraft on Singapore Airlines.
Redeeming Miles for Singapore B787-10 Business Class to Singapore
You can book Singapore Airlines B787-10 Business Class with the following options to Singapore:
- 21,000 Aegean Miles One Way
- 36,000 Avianca Lifemiles One Way
- 30,000 United Miles One Way
- 30,500 Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer Miles (15,000 Miles with Spontaneous Escape Discounts) One Way
- Or when Alaska will finally allow redemptions on Singapore Airlines (No Way yet)
This is definitely not the best way to use your miles for this mere 4-hour flight, but considering the cash price for flights between Hong Kong and Singapore, it can be a good deal for some if they want to try out their new regional product. Singapore Airline’s B787-10s are some of their newest aircraft in the fleet, featuring a refreshed regional configuration with Business Class cabin finally getting fully flat seats with direct aisle access.
Singapore Airlines does restrict its award space to partners, but I’ve had success using partners to book Singapore Airlines 787-10 flights in Business Class so you can try your luck.
