Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown Review: New but kinks need to be worked out

Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown is a very new property, opened in May 2017. It’s part of this new complex developed by Greenland, and they’re calling it Metropolis. I find the name awful, reminds me of batman and has a 50s vibe. Aside from that, the hotel I notice is one of the first buildings to open there.

I used points to redeem a night and it only cost 30,000 IHG Priority Club points, which is a steal. The price was hovering around $250 USD. I only reserved it an hour before check-in. Check-in was quick, but there was no upgrade to a suite available since they were still finishing constructing those. She found me one last corner room which I took.

Chic Lobby Bar. They have happy hour specials

Lobby is nice, has that living room feel that newer hotels are going with. The lobby bar area is modern and chic. I did like that, but it was a bit weird how they had the business center where all of the people are getting drinks.

Lobby. Doors on the right to the service elevators were left open looking into the bland service corridor.

Corner room was very spacious. I assume it’s the same as a regular room, just more space to dance around. Didn’t care for the flooring, would prefer carpeting. Everything was nice and shiny and new though. There was a giant thumping noise after getting into the room and I thought it was upstairs room construction.

Standalone wardrobe is weird. So much space, why no built in closet?

Eventually I determined the noise was coming from this giant rope outside which kept hitting my window. It was super annoying and windy outside so I went down and told the front desk about it.

The noise was so loud I couldn’t stay in the room anymore and waited in the lobby bar area while they were fixing it. Front desk got maintenance on the issue, but took them about an hour to fix, not ideal. They gave me a drink voucher in the meanwhile, which I didn’t even use. Whoop dee do.

Service could definitely use improvement. Front desk didn’t really update me on anything, I had to keep asking and even when I asked for a water I had to remind the waitress to bring it after she forgot.

Corner unit

Bathroom was decorated nicely with marble, but I didn’t care for the shower only option. They could’ve easily fit in a tub with all of the space in the room. The planners / designers missed out on an opportunity here.

Nice bathroom, but where’s the tub? Tub should be here for such a large corner room.

I could see the pool from my room, looked small. Wasn’t operational yet since the hotel was so new.

Pool looks small, not operational yet
Another Metropolis building

Overall the hotel I felt was kinda blah. For a brand new hotel there were a lot of missed opportunities. For example, they should’ve made the bathroom larger, had more furniture in the room to fill in the empty space, and overall they could’ve offered a more upscale experience. I don’t plan to ever come back here, they aren’t charging cheap prices. If anything, I may grab a drink in the lobby because I felt that was the nicest part of the hotel.
