Indonesian national carrier Garuda Indonesia is currently running an excellent Business Class fare sale from Hong Kong to Australian destinations. With fares as low as 950USD (7500HKD) offered through the end of 2018. Garuda Indonesia is a Skytrax five star airline. There is twice daily flight between Hong Kong and Jakarta and once daily flight between Denpasar (Bali) and Hong Kong. Chris R recently reviewed Garuda Indonesia’s B737 Business Class between Jakarta and Hong Kong which you can find here.
Flights to Sydney (1125USD/8800HKD)
Garuda flies to Sydney from both Jakarta and Denpasar (Bali). Hence, you can choose to connect via either city. The price differences are not huge and you can connect via different cities in different directions of your journey.
On Google Flights, it shows plenty of available dates as long as you depart Hong Kong by 31st of December 2018. The cheapest fare I can find is 1124USD(8822HKD). There is even availability of such cheap fare for dates around Christmas and other school holidays in Hong Kong. While some travel dates cost slightly more than the lowest fare, it is still an exceptional deal.
I made a dummy booking for a Christmas 2 week trip and it shows the lowest price of 1124USD(8822HKD). You can book flights to Sydney on Google Flights through this link.
Flights to Melbourne (1120USD/8795HKD)
Prices to Melbourne are similar to what it costs for Sydney. The best fare I can find is at 1121USD(8795HKD). Same as Sydney, you can choose to connect via Jakarta or Denpasar(Bali). There is not a huge price difference between the two connections as well.
Again, availability is excellent and you can find plenty of options. Dates around Christmas are slightly expensive but nonetheless a great deal. You can book flights to Melbourne via this link here.
Flights to Perth (951USD/7463HKD)
Flights to Perth are even cheaper, with the lowest fare at 951USD(7463HKD). However, flights from both Jakarta and Denpasar to Perth are flown by 737s, with Business Class only having recliner seats. Therefore, this might not be the optimal choice if you wish to travel with a better hard product. The inferior product offering and shorter distance make this not as great of a deal compared to Sydney and Melbourne.
Availability is best if connecting via Jakarta. There is some availability via Denpasar(Bali), but either it dramatically increases the price or it requires over 20 hours of connection time. You can find flights to Perth using Google Flights through this link.
I highly recommend you to take advantage of these deals as the fares are substantially lower than what is currently published by other airlines. It is rare to see great fare sales through Christmas as well.
However, it is worth noting some of these flights are served by Garuda’s 737-800, which features only recliner seats in Business Class. For their A330 flights, there are three different configurations. The best is their A330-300 that features reverse herringbone seats that are fully flat and features direct aisle access. Then there are some A330-300s that features fully flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. The least appealing option would be their A330-200s that features 165-degree angle flat seats in a 2-2-2 configuration. You can find more specifications for Garuda Indonesia’s seats on SeatGuru.
These flights have no minimum and maximum stay requirements so it allows extreme flexibility for travelers. The promotion fares book into I class, you can find the mileage earning rate via this link. Most Skyteam partner Frequent Flyer Programme credit 125% miles for this fare class, with some even crediting 150% of miles flown.
Unfortunately, the deal only works if you depart from Hong Kong. It is more common nowadays to see fare deals out of Asia than those to Asia.
