Hong Kong Airlines HKG – SHA Flight Review
Flew HX238 and HX239 return from Hong Kong to Shanghai Hongqiao airport. Left on a Friday and came back on a Sunday. The times of the flight are very convenient if you want a whole weekend and you don’t need to schlep all of the way out to Pudong neither.
HX 238 Dep 15:50 Arr 18:25 2h35m
HX 239 Dep 19:20 Arr 21:45 2h25m
The flight was delayed both directions of course, about 1 hour on the departure, and 2 hours on the return. I hear this is a very common occurrence with Shanghai flights and was told I was lucky it was only 1-2 hours. haha.
In Hong Kong your board the plane via bus and stairs which is inconvenient but usually how it is on these ‘budget’ airlines. The plane however was very new and had a lovely seats and entertainment system. Food was not memorable but you can’t expect much on a short flight.
For the return from Hongqiao, the plane was older but at least we got to board via jetbridge. Basically same experience coming back to Hong Kong, decent basic service, ok legroom comparable with Cathay Pacific.
I have heard many gripes about Hong Kong Airlines from my friends but honestly I didn’t have too bad an experience. Seats were decent and there’s an entertainment system. Luckily I didn’t have major delay issues, but I did hear that HX does get delayed more than KA and CX. Wouldn’t hesitate to fly them again if the times workout and the price is right.
