At the airport
I arrived at the airport a little over an hour before the scheduled departure time of 1.25 p.m. This was my first time to notice the new Cathay branding used on departure signs and screens. Aesthetically the colour blocking was good but the text is small and indistinct so I do not find them very functional.
There is no longer a separate First Class lounge at Taipei and I used Cathay’s combined lounge before boarding.
The flight was operated by a Boeing 777-300 ER (registration B-KPV). There were six seats in the first class cabin, but after I boarded the flight attendant informed me that I was the only passenger in the cabin and so I could take my pick of seats. For this short hop, I opted for a window seat.
The flight pushed back from gate B6 on schedule. After a swift, smooth flight we landed in Hong Kong twenty five minutes before the scheduled arrival time.
The service was very attentive. One of the two flight attendants serving the cabin introduced me and made friendly conversation for some time at the start of the flight. Later the other flight attendant introduced himself, as did the purser. During the service both flight attendants were friendly and helpful.
Food and Drink
The flight attendant set the table at my seat, including with a bread basket with mixed breads.
The starter was delicious, especially the salmon which was reasonably sized and succulent. For the main course I had the chicken roll which was well presented and tasty. As I was replete I decided not to have a dessert. I opted for jasmine tea and wasn’t offered a praline, which Cathay sometimes does.
In addition there was a German wine promotion. I did not ask which of the wines they were carrying on this flight but the menu listed a total of six.
This was an excellent flight, punctual, smooth and with attentive service.
