In exciting news for Asia Miles members and frequent flyers of other oneworld partners such as British Airways, Japan Airlines, American Airlines, etc……US Airways and TAM (Brazilian based airline) are joining oneworld today. If you have travel plans in the Americas, this opens up a lot of flight opportunities for you to earn and redeem miles on US or JJ.
You should be able to redeem on US and JJ starting today through Asia Miles or any other oneworld partner as it’s already March 31 in most of the world. In fact BA is showing US availability on their Avios award booking engine.
Unfortunately US Airways and TAM both do not fly to Asia, but additional alliance partners usually doesn’t hurt. Keep in mind that US Airways is in the process of merging with American Airlines, so you’ll eventually see US disappear and flights converted to AA. TAM also merged with LAN recently. Mostly this is a huge benefit to flyers to South and Central America via TAM. US also does have some flights to Europe from primarily their Philadelphia and Charlotte hubs.
Go book some award tickets for the World Cup and Olympics coming up in Brazil, if you can find redeemable seats that is.
