Hong Kong Airlines has some fantastic redemption values in business class. For example, from HKG to Shanghai, it’s only 2,000 more miles to redeem a seat in business class. It gets progressively more expensive the further you fly, but still a good value.

The drawback to this program is the accrual rate is really bad for discounted fares. On discount economy it can be as low as 30% of flown mileage, vs 100% on many American based carriers. Even discount business only gives you 50% of miles earned, versus earning on many other airlines generally over 100%.

In summary, if you’re flying one of the higher fare brackets, I think Hong Kong Airlines is a good frequent flyer program to consider if you’re traveling regionally, but if you’re booking the cheaper fares, probably better to stick with other airline programs since you’ll never accrue enough miles to redeem a ticket anyway, even if business class is only a few thousand more miles than economy.
