Sometimes you try and do a good deed, and what thanks do you get for it? Cathay Pacific has a lot of annoyances for its regular passengers, but its arrivals lounge is something for which it perhaps deserves more credit. There are often complaints about its capacity at peak times, which are fair, but most airlines don’t provide any arrivals lounge, so despite its imperfections, The Arrival is a welcome concept.
The Arrival is located landside between terminals one and two. As you come out of terminal one arrivals, follow the signs for transportation to the city. Walking down, you’ll see some escalators, and an HSBC cash machine to your right. Take the escalators down (or lift) and The Arrival sits discreetly at the end of the corridor there, on your right.
Access is only for those arriving on Cathay Pacific or Dragon flights, either in First or Business class, or with a Diamond or Gold Marco Polo membership, Cargo Clan Elite membership or One World Emerald status. Guests are not permitted. Details are here. The lounge is open daily from 5.30 a.m. to midnight.
This lounge design reflects its purpose of being a place to freshen up after a flight and get a bit of work done before heading into the city. A large space is taken up by showers. You can give your name to the attendant and will be put on the shower list. Most of the day, when the lounge is deserted or fairly empty, a shower is immediately available, but at peak time early in the morning, you may need to wait, sometimes as long as an hour. The showers are powerful and the small shower rooms comfortable, although the semi-open shower screen means it can be hard to find somewhere to store your items which will stay dry.
There is a decent selection of newspapers and some magazines. There is a bank of computers at a bar, and a seated area with a few more comfortable chairs.
The dining area offers an a la carte menu, which changes at different times of day. The food dishes tend to be tasty though of varying size. Some are substantial, for example recently one option was a whole pizza. There is also a buffet bar with salads, snacks and some drinks. The drinks range is basic and is non-alcoholic.
You can leave your luggage in the small luggage room by the receptionist. If you are planning on heading into town and going back to the airport the same day for a connecting flight, the staff at The Arrival may agree for you to leave your luggage there during the day, but that is discretionary.
