Cathay Pacific FUK – TPE – HKG Business Class Review
Flew CX511 / CX510: FUK – TPE – HKG in business class. Treated myself to business class using British Avios redemption. This flight is only 20,000 miles one way in business using Avios, with a 1 hour stop in Taipei.
Check-in at Fukuoka didn’t feel like Japan because you had to x-ray all of your luggage before approaching the check-in desks which I thought was odd considering they do another check before immigration. The business check-in counter is separate once you get through x-ray, but the x-ray line was long since all passengers are in the same line.
I was connecting from a domestic JAL flight and the check-in agent confirmed they received my inter-lined luggage, nice. Good job Cathay and JAL. Check-in and immigration was otherwise uneventful.
The lounge at Fukuoka was really terrible. Tiny, cramped, and barely any food. Just some cup noodles and minor snacks. But, if you like to drink they have alcohol. All of the international flights also depart about the same time in the late morning so there were tons of people milling around the airport.
Once on the plane the seating was regional business class, recliner seats. Nothing special as the seats were worn and dated. Food was good though, a nice selection and I decided on the fish from FUK – Taipei. As there’s a stop in TPE, you get fed another meal from TPE – HKG which was fantastic since I was hungry. The stop was quick and you have the choice of leaving or staying on the plane. I remained on the plane since there’s no where interesting to roam about in Taipei Taoyuan Airport.
Good flight overall, what I would expect from Cathay Pacific. Drawback is the old style business seats and stop in TPE, but you do get fed two meals as a bonus and the flight attendants make sure you get whatever you need.
