Easy Star Alliance Gold and Silver Status via Aegean Airlines

Aegean Airlines has the lowest criteria to reach Star Alliance Silver and Star Alliance Gold status.

  • Silver: 4,000 miles
  • Gold: 20,000 miles

As a bonus, they actually give you a 1,000 mile bonus for signing up for a program, reducing the requirements to 3,000 and 19,000 miles. These are exceptionally low thresholds since most programs require 25,000 and 50,000 miles for Silver and Gold. I only discovered this recently since I was flying United and looking to see if there were any status promotions.

You can fly any Star Alliance airline to accrue miles on Aegean Airlines. Many higher priced fares earn 150-100% mileage accrual, many discounted economy fares are 50%. Here’s the breakdown.

Benefit breakdown:

Aegean Airlines LogoSilver:

  • Priority Reservations Waitlisting -when there aren’t any seats left on your preferred flight, gives you priority should a seat become available.
  • Priority Airport Standby -gives you top priority when standing by for a flight at the airport.

Gold:

  • Airport Lounge Access -available worldwide for you and a friend when you travel with any Star Alliance member airline, regardless of your class of travel.
  • Priority Airport Check-in -allows you to check-in at the Business and/or First Class counter.
  • Priority Boarding -enjoy the freedom of boarding at your convenience along with First and Business Class passengers.
  • Extra Baggage Allowance -an additional 20 kg (44 pounds) where the weight concept applies, or one additional piece of luggage where the piece concept applies.
  • Priority Baggage Handling -like you, your bags get priority treatment and are among the first to be unloaded.
  • Priority Reservations Waitlisting -when there aren’t any seats left on your preferred flight, gives you priority should a seat become available.
  • Priority Airport Standby -gives you top priority when standing-by a flight at the airport.

Star Alliance Silver officially doesn’t provide many benefits, but some airlines will let you use the priority check-in desks as a Silver. Also, on US Air and United Airlines U.S. domestic flights, there are baggage fees. Silver will provide you one checked bag for free.

Gold Status is really where the benefits are though, with the lounge access, extra allowances, priority everything, etc. So if you can obtain 19,000 miles I’d suggest going for that.
