Lai Yuen Amazement Park Super Summer 2016 Starts Tomorrow!

Disneyland and Ocean Park are among the tourist-favourites of Hong Kong attraction sites. But before these two amusement park even exist, Lai Yuen Amusement Park was the go-to place for dates, fun and excitement. Despite its closure in 1997, the beloved park returned temporarily last year in the summer at the Central harbour front. And this year, the park is making another comeback.

Lai Yuen Amusement Park will return for its Super Summer 2016 for a mere 24 days from July 15 (tomorrow!) to August 7. Unlike previous years, this year’s carnival will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo at Chek Lap Kok and comprises of an indoor section of 11,000 square metres in addition to the outdoor area of 8,000 square metres.

The location is undeniably a bit far from the city, but the new indoor area means there will be plenty of space for you to hide from the summer heat or rain for a little break between rides.

This year’s park will be filled with the usual games and rides. Get ready for carnival staples like bumper cars, a giant two-storey-high ball pit, and arcade games from shooting range to arcade basketball. Iconic stops would be feeding fake bananas to the once symbol TINO the robotic elephant and photo stops of non-airconditioned Lai Yuen buses.

The park also introduces new themed areas for the local cartoon “Flying Sofye” and the popular Japanese cartoon Yo-Kai Watch Incredible Journey. So kids are in for a treat!

Hoping for a challenge? Find Hong Kong’s longest indoor inflatable obstacle course Inflatable Mad Dash which is 110 metres long. See if you or your friends can complete the race first! Then you can go for a jump inside the bouncing dinosaur DINO Dum Dum Jump.

Don’t be worried if you are not one for traditional rides or arcade games. The park will also feature Hong Kong’s first outdoor go-kart racetrack – XRACE. You can race up to 50km/hr at the 650-metre long racetrack and drove around the 8,000-square-metres racecourse.

For the fastest racer of all, you will be gifted with two tickets to Hong Kong’s first-ever Formula E Championship Hong Kong ePrix held on October 8 and 9! This however will cost another HK$280 per 45 minutes, but I am sure adrenaline junkies won’t want to miss this.

To reserve your tickets, visit the park’s official website, or purchase your tickets while you are there.
