AirAsia moving all operations to Bangkok Don Muang Airport
This is interesting news…AirAsia is moving ALL operations from Suvarnabhumi BKK to Don Mueang DMK starting October 1, 2012. Details here
There are pros and cons to this, and for HKG flyers I’d say it’s probably a slight benefit overall, depending on where your final destination is.
- Pro: Overall Don Mueang (DMK) airport is MUCH closer to Bangkok than Suvarnabhumi so flyers from HKG to Bangkok on Air Asia will be glad to know it’ll be easier to get to the city.
- Pro: If you are making a connection from Air Asia to Air Asia there won’t be much difference since all of their flights are moving to DMK. Maybe there will be less facilities during your connection time but overall I say this is no impact.
- Pro: If you’re connecting from Air Asia to discount carriers, in particular Nok Air this will be much easier and allow you to get super cheap flights to domestic Thai destinations such as Phuket or Chiang Mai.
- Con: On the other hand, if you’re connecting from Air Asia to another non-discount airline, it will most likely fly out of BKK. There aren’t any easy transfer options for you so you may want to rethink any type of connection between the two airports.
