Greeting Hong Kong Travel Blog readers~!
This blog is was created due to the lack of information for travelers based in or traveling through Hong Kong, as well as for frequent fliers members of the Asia Miles program who are usually left out from other blogs. Through this blog I’ve shared with you the best deals, trip reports, tips, and tricks for travelers. I’m also one of those loyalty program point collectors who will do anything to score a free or cheap flight and hotel room for high living at a backpacker’s budget.
My name is Christopher, and as a Chinese-American expatriate, I moved to Hong Kong in 2008 for my career in the banking industry. I also just graduated with my MBA from HKUST. Since moving here, I’ve come to love and call Hong Kong home! Blessed with a location in the geographical heart of Asia, I had many opportunities to travel throughout the region and world.
I was inspired by my high-school friend Kenneth Lim to create this blog. So shout out to @kennethlimphoto!

Most airline miles card have a high anuanl fee.The best card might be the Starwood AMEX card. No fee the first year, and only $ 30/yr thereafter. You can sign up with a free Starwood account online. Then, for every 20,000 Starwood points you earn, you can transfer to most major airline programs and earn an extra . So your 20,000 points will become 25,000 miles. This is better than most airline cards, which is 1 mile per dollar.
I found your blog by chance as I was looking for some Asia Miles redemption from HKG to TPE and what the taxes are. Unfortunately, still haven’t found the answer. Will definitely bookmark this.
Lucky for you Ko, I just booked a ticket in July HKG to TPE. 15,000 miles + HKD713.00 tax / fuel
The total taxes will fluctuate month to month based on fuel surcharges, but figure about 700ish roundtrip, about half for one way.
You can also check by going through the booking process, selecting your flights and continuing through the screens. Once you hit the screen to enter traveler details it’ll show the total price but you can stop proceeding with the booking at that point.
