In case you’re unaware, there’s a number of MTR Fare Saver booths all over Hong Kong. These discount your same day MTR fares by $1-2 depending on the booth. It’s really easy, all you have to do is ‘doot’ your Octopus card on the Fare Saver reader, and if you take a ride from the designated MTR station that same day you’ll get a discount when you leave the system.
The most popular one for tourists is probably going to be the one in Sheung Wan on the mid-levels escalator right above Hollywood Road. Another good one is the CC Wu Building in Wan Chai off Hennesey Road. It’s in the main lobby up the stairs on the left hand side if you’re walking in from Hennessey Road.
The main purpose of the Fare Savers is to entice you to take the MTR over other modes of transport. Usually the fare savers are in inconvenient locations to the MTR or in between stations.
